On Tuesday President Trump signed a bill that authorizes funding for NASA and sets a new goal of putting humans on Mars.

The NASA Transition Authorization Act gives NASA $19.5 billion in 2018, and calls on the agency to come up with a plan to send a "crewed mission to Mars in the 2030s." The law also requires NASA to "extend human presence, including potential human habitation on another celestial body and a thriving space economy in the 21st Century."

Trump had already set aside $19.1 billion for NASA in his recently-proposed 2018 budget.
