The game day jersey that famously went missing from Tom Brady's locker following the Patriots comeback win over the Falcons in Super Bowl LI has been recovered.
The NFL confirmed the recovery of the historic uniform item by the FBI via press release, shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, March 20. “Through the cooperation of the NFL and New England Patriots’ security teams, the FBI and other law enforcement authorities, the Super Bowl LI jersey won last month by MVP Tom Brady has been recovered. Also retrieved during the ongoing investigation was the jersey Brady wore in the Patriots’ victory in Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks in 2015,” the statement read. It went on to cite that the jersey was found "in the possession of a credentialed member of the international media.”
Fans will recall footage circulating the media following the game, which showed the moment Brady joyously embraced team owner Robert Kraft, before straightening his face to disclose that he could not find the jersey. Houston officials would start up a thorough investigation of the matter, with threat of imposing felony charges on the culprit due to the item's appraisal projecting its value at half-million dollar.
A tweet sent out by Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo divulged that the Jersey was recovered across the southern border, writing, "Proud @houstonpolice Major Offenders Divison traced Brady Jersey to Mexico & it has been recovered with help of FBI & Mexican authorities."
An investigation into how the jersey was stolen is ongoing.
