The Irish came out to represent heavy for St. Patrick's Day festivities on Friday, March 17, starting with the city's annual parade, and ending with a boxing card headlined by Ireland's up and coming Olympian Michael Conlan. But although Conlan shined with a devastating stoppage of Tim Ibarra, his performance swiftly took the back seat to the big development of the night, which took place when Conor McGregor showed up and began to put on for the press.

"I'm the boxing guy! Watch me take over boxing," McGregor said as fans and members of the media crowded around him, ringside at Madison Square Garden. He had been toying with one of the reporters, inquiring into whether he's the 'boxing guy' before sending out a message to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the world. "Trust me, I'm gonna stop Floyd and you're all going to f***king, you're all gonna eat your words," he said, hyping his age, skill, and eagerness to get into the ring with the boxing great.

Before storming away, McGregor staked his claim to being something bigger than Mixed Martial Arts, or even a singular scrap with Mayweather, by exclaiming: "I am boxing!"
