Since the 1960's, United States law has mandated that all marijuana used in research come through the federal government. In other words, researchers attempting to study how marijuana use affects, say, individuals with anxiety, must use marijuana issued by the government.

And researchers are growing increasingly frustrated with the increasingly poor quality of the marijuana they receive.

The photo above shows a sample of federal marijuana issued to Sue Sisely, a researcher attempting to test the efficacy of marijuana on veterans with PTSD. “It doesn’t resemble cannabis. It doesn’t smell like cannabis,” Sisley said.

Jack Brown, a cannabis critic for the Denver Post, agrees. “That is, flat out, not a usable form of cannabis,” he said.
