Attorney General Jeff Sessions, along with members of the Trump Administration, have been under investigation for alleged ties with Russia, and a possible Russian influence over the election.

Now, Sessions has decided to recuse himself from investigating any type of Russian involvement in the 2016 Presidential election. At a press conference held at the Department of Justice, Sessions said "I have now decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matter relating in any way to the campaign for president of the United States. This announcement should not be interpreted as confirmation of the existence of any investigation or suggestive of the scope of any such investigation.” Sessions previously told the Senate Judiciary Committee under oath that he did not have any type of communication with the Russians while on the presidential campaign trail. However, the Washington Post reported that Sessions met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak two times in 2016. After the story dropped, Sessions then said that his meeting were "held in his capacity as a senator and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and not as a Trump campaign adviser."

Since Sessions has recused himself, Deputy Attorney General Dana Boente is set to handle any campaign-related investigations moving forward.
