This past Saturday, a 17-year-old in Georgia named Jordan Middleton was killed by a man whose 14-year-old daughter had let him in the house. The man mistakenly shot the teenager because he thought he was a burglar.

Deputies at the Columbia County Sheriff's Office reportedly found Middleton dead at about 2:50 a.m. after being alerted of a burglary in progress. By the time the police arrived, Middleton was found by the front door of the home with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The 14-year-old's father told police that he heard some sounds from his downstairs in his home. From there, he armed himself and went to see what was causing the sound. He then told police that he heard and saw the family's dog barking at the guest bedroom. The man went to the room and asked that the intruder reveal themselves. He then gave another warning which was met with silence, so he went into the room. As soon as spotted Middleton running out of the closet in the room, he shot him once in the chest because he thought the young man was a robber.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the homeowner as the investigation into the shooting continues.
