Former Obama administration Labor Secretary Tom Perez was named the chairman of the Democratic National Committee this week and received congratulations from across the political spectrum. As is customary, he received a nod of approval from President Donald Trump, only Trump's congratulatory tweet mockingly suggested that the news was better for his party than it was for the Democrats.

"Congratulations to Thomas Perez, who has just been named Chairman of the DNC. I could not be happier for him, or for the Republican Party!" Trump tweeted.

Perez wasn't amused by the post, firing back: "Call me Tom. And don't get too happy. @keithellison and I, and Democrats united across the country, will be your worst nightmare."

The welcome for Perez wasn't any warmer coming from the actual Republican Party, which released a statement dubbing Perez a "D.C. insider," and ironically implying that in bringing the party further "left" will only alienate their base. "The DNC would be well-served to learn from two straight election cycle losses, encourage leaders in their party to listen to what the voters want and to get to work with Republicans to fix the mess they created," the statement, delivered by Perez's Republican National Committee counterpart, Ronna McDaniel, then read.
