One mom found a creative way to educate her 5-year-old daughter on black history after she came home from school with questions about Martin Luther King Jr.

Cristi Jones of Kent, Washington thought her daughter Lola would better understand the "deep and heavy" topics of black history if they re-created looks of iconic black women during dress up. Jones used thrift store clothing and items around the house to dress Lola as Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Misty Copeland, and many others.

Lola's mother posted one photo at a time on Twitter, and the collection has become very popular online. The girl's teacher also revealed that it has made the shy 5-year-old open up in class after other students started taking interest in the project.

Her teacher Theresa Sawyer explained, “Lola has always been so quiet and shy and still is, but she has come out of her shell somewhat. She will tell us about the picture or answer her peer's questions about the pictures without hesitation now. I can tell that she is really proud of the project, as she should be.”
