Chicago sportscaster Mark Giangreco has been suspended over remarks he made that insulted President Donald Trump and his supporters, it was reported on Thursday, February 23.

The ESPN Radio contributor and longtime WLS-TV anchor has been informed by employer ABC7 that he will soon be required to submit to a multi-week infraction - [over which time he will not be paid] - for words he exchanged in the comments section of a tweet on Sunday. To Giangreco's misfortune, his comment would not remain as anonymous as he would have liked, for long, as a conservative website was able to track the offensive comment down and publicize it before it's audience.

“So obvious, so disturbing. America exposed as a country full of simpletons who allowed this cartoon lunatic to be 'elected," Giangreco was cited as saying. He was responding to a post put up by friend Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star, who had written that the President is “a hateful ignorant corrupt simpleton supported by 87% of Republicans.”

ABC7 would later put out a statement explaining why it has chosen to punish Giangreco. Giangreco's “twitter comments are not in line with ABC7 Chicago’s non-partisan editorial standards,” the statement read.
