Some of the attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference [CPAC] on Friday, February 24, were embarrassed to find out that they had been tricked into mocking the President, when staffers began to confiscate the "TRUMP" flags they were waving. Having received the flags upon entering the popular right-wing function, the possibility that they'd be supplied with Russia's national banner could've only crossed the mind of the most cynical of conspiracy theorists. But sure enough, as the masses are observing from photos gone viral, Russian flags they were.

One look at the white, blue, and red succession of colors and it becomes easy to see why anyone unfamiliar with Russia's flag might not have assumed anything off about the item. Patriots often flaunt three striped representations of the American flag as interchangeable with the more densely detailed banner when needing to economize space on smaller objects. Typically though, such an emblem would present itself consistent with the conventional red, white, and blue scheme.

Event organizers are saying that the occurrence appears to have been a prank pulled over on supporters of the President who simply overlooked the minor differences. The fact that the flags had the Commander-In-Chief's name on them also played a role in the confusion. Little did they know that they had been coerced in on the running narrative in national news that has speculated about the true nature of President Trump's association with Vladimir Putin and the U.S.'s former cold war enemy.

Trump has been critical of the media's coverage of scandals involving the possibility of Russian meddling in November's election, and the security breach that lead to the resignation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn earlier this month. In response, he has attempted to discredit networks he deems to be critical of his administration, by accusing them of putting out fake news; calling speculation about his friendship with the Russians "a ruse."
