In light of the media continuing to swarm him over his recent rejection of science, Draymond Green came to the defense of star rival Kyrie Irving on Saturday, February 18, telling reporters that Irving might be right about the Earth being flat.

"I don't know. I haven't done enough research, but um, it may be flat," Green said at an All-Star Weekend media juncture. "It's just his opinion. It's hard to call someone's opinions crazy. That's what he thinks."

Green's response comes amidst the topic having trended since Reddit reported on Irving making the claim during an appearance on Channing Fry and Richard Jefferson's podcast, on Friday, February 17. Irving refuted speculation that such a belief, which goes against centuries of scientific research, would boil down to a conspiracy theory, stating, "It's right on front of our eyes." By Friday night the world wanted to know how serious the Cavs point guard was, and so he doubled down on his claim, telling ESPN's Arash Markazi: “I’ve seen a lot of things that my educational system has said that was real that turned out to be completely fake.”

Green voiced a similar perspective, telling a reporter who challenged that there is proof of the planet being a sphere that he could very well use his iPhone to generate an optical illusion and have people believe his propaganda about it true. It has since been discovered that Green tweeted "the world is flat fool," to @MizSuzie on March 1, 2010, but he maintains that he isn't contending that he is certain Irving is right, only discouraging the public from dispelling his position so easily.
