It's been a rough month for Charles Oakley. The retired New York Knicks forward was arrested and temporarily banned from Madison Square Garden after assaulting security guards who were called by Knicks owner James Dolan. Oakley is back in the headlines again but this time it's good news.

Oakley is joining Ice Cube's 3-on-3 basketball league called BIG3. Like Allen Iverson, Oakley will be player/coach in the league. Other retired NBA players in the league include Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Marting, Rashard Lewis, Jermaine O'Neal, Stephen Jackson, Jason Williams, Bonzi Wells, George Gervin, Ricky Davis, and Clyde Drexler.

“I couldn’t be happier to be a part of this league,” Oakley said in a statement. “Everyone seems to realize we are about to make history together as players. What an exciting opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the best ever.”

Big3 had publicly posted support of Oakley on its website last week, during his spat with Dolan.

The games will begin in late June.
