Veteran rapper Lil Flip was back in the public eye recently, and it wasn't for making music. Rather, the 35-year-old Houston native was the focus of a news story covering an invitation by the city's mayor himself, for Flip to come receive an receive a proclamation for community service, on a date that was recognized in his name.

Mayor Sylvester Turner was joined by councilman Dwight Boykins and other officials, as the honor of "Lil Flip Day" was bestowed upon him. The recognition comes as a compliment to the work he has done involving youth around the Houston area. It is work that Flip says he doesn't often publicize but regularly partakes in. The ceremony was documented and aired by Fox26 Houston.

"A lot of the things I do for the city, I never call the media to tell them, like, 'Hey I'm doing this, I'm giving away bikes.' I just believe in just doing it from my heart. So, to get recognized for what I do... we just getting started though," he said.
