Genius.com got a chance to sit down with Prodigy, for an exclusive interview on his curious knowledge of the illuminati and the reason for it being a running theme in his music for the past two decades. The interview comes one week after the Mobb Deep rapper finally released an album dedicated to the concept, with the dropping of "Hegelian Dialectic (The Book of Revelation)." Fans will recall Prodigy being the rapper responsible for interjecting the notion of the secret society into hip-hop when the sample of a line he spit on the 1995 remix of LL Cool J's "I Shot Ya," was popularized by Jay-Z's D'evils (off of Reasonable Doubt) one year later.

"Illuminati want my mind, soul, and my body/ secret society trying to keep their eye on me," Prodigy famously spit. He told Genius that at the time, he had already been well informed about the Illuminati, but was careful not to over saturate his raps with content on the organization for fear of turning anyone off. Instead, he said, he chose to plant seeds along the way. According to Prodigy, he had studied about the Order Of The Illuminati founder Adam Weishaupt as a high school aged teen.

With the concept of an illuminati controlling the world's affairs continuing to present itself in hip-hop and pop music, and with fans often accusing artists of belonging to some organized illuminati order, the rapper points out that it goes much deeper than the man credited with founding the society, even. He touched on how those who formed the Order in the 1700's were if anything inspired by the ancient Essenes, and elaborated on how being illuminati is more of a metaphysical experience than a simple affiliation.

"It's one god force on this planet. And we are given free will to do what we want with that power. You could use that power for good, and then, you could use that power for evil too," he said, while hosting the interview in a venue known as the Illuminati Ball House. "But it's only one power. So when people think there's god and the devil, nah, it's only one. But you could use that force for bad. That's what these people are playing with. They're playing with that energy."
