Shortly after getting into office, Trump's team released their plans in relation to United States law enforcement via a document titled "Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement." The document falls in line with the "Blue Lives Matter" sentiment that was pushed to go against Black Lives Matter protesting. Now, the police in Louisiana are utilizing a "blue lives matter" law which aims to protect police officers from people who are resisting arrest. For those who resist arrest, you would be charged with a felony hate crime. Essentially, the hate crime charge could be tacked on to other charges, possibly turning a misdemeanor into a felony. If charged, one could potentially face ten years to life in prison.

St. Martinville, Louisiana Police Chief Calder Herbert gave a quote to ABC, saying "We need the police and the public to work together. The policemen have a job. The public has the job of helping the police. And if someone happens to be involved in criminal activity. Let the courts handle it. Don’t resist physically.” Herbert also went on to say that he hopes the rest of the nation follows suit with the use of this law.
