Since the start of the year, 228 people have been shot in Chicago, making it the deadliest start to the year in two decades. This is also a 5.5% increase since this time in 2016, and a 23.5% increase in homicides since last year.

Just over the weekend, 54 people were shot, six of them fatally. Among the dead are three people who were sitting in their car, and a woman in her 20s who was standing in front of an elementary school.
