Soulja Boy stepped up his bid for recognition among the great artists of his generation recently, when during an interview with Hype Beast he declared himself king of rap's new school.

Soulja made no bones about where he feels his name ought to be mentioned, in comparison to acts that have come along and been able to exploit technology to their benefit, since doing so in his hey day with 2007 Youtube hit, turned Billboard chart topper, "Crank That (Soulja Boy)." According to the SODMG rapper, what he did didn't only serve as an influence to the current crop of rap freshmen and sophomores, it is responsible for their existence as artists.

"Ya'lls my children n***a. I started this s**t. I created this s**t," said Soulja Boy. He named Migos and Lil Yachty as a couple of benefactors of what he said is a platform he invented, in terms of promoting music. According to Soulja, Youtube itself has personally recognized him as it's first viral rap star. And he is tired of artists building a buzz by using his formula, and not giving him his due credit. "If it wasn't for me, none of y'all would exist right now," he said.
