A teary-eyed Joe Biden accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction on Thursday (Jan. 12), which was a surprise from his "brother," Barack Obama. Biden thought he was being called into the White House for a private farewell to the Obamas alongside his wife, however, he was met by a room full of friends, family, and colleagues.

Obama told Biden, "To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self-regard, and to live life fully." Joe had to turn away from the crowd to compose himself when Obama announced that he would be receiving the nation's highest civilian honor, and tears streamed down his face when the medal was placed around his neck.
