Time magazine has named U.S. President-elect Donald Trump Person of the Year. Trump responded this morning on the Today Show, saying that it was a "great honor."

According to a Time magazine editorial written in 2007 following Vladimir Putin's selection as Person of the Year, "TIME's Person of the Year is not and never has been an honor. It is not an endorsement. It is not a popularity contest. At its best, it is a clear-eyed recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful individuals and forces shaping that world—for better or for worse."

U.S. President-elects have routinely been featured as Time's POTY. Notably, both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Adolf Hitler have been featured as Person of the Year.
