The Army Corps of Engineers has just reported that the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline will no longer extend through Standing Rock.

Activists and members of the Standing Rock Sioux have been protesting the proposed route since early April 2016.The pipeline is complete save for a small section beneath a Missouri River reservoir, about 50 miles south of Bismarck, North Dakota.  Protesters have argued that the pipeline would destroy the environment and contaminate the drinking water of the Standing Rock Sioux.

Standing Rock Sioux Chairman David Archambault celebrated the decision. "I am thankful there were some leaders in the federal government that realized something was not right even though it's legal. For the first time in history...they heard our voices. This is something that will go down in history and is a blessing for all indigenous people," he said.
