New details have emerged about the man who gunned down former New York Jets running back Joe McKnight in an alleged road rage incident this week. Records from the Jefferson Parrish Sheriff's office reveal that shooter Ronald Gasser was involved in a road rage incident at the very same Terrytown, Louisiana intersection a decade ago.

Gasser, 54, remained on the scene to submit himself for questioning after firing three shots into McKnight shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 1. He would be taken into custody where the account of witnesses, that a verbal exchange had escalated prior to the shooting, was corroborated. But within hours he was freed from custody without charges being filed against him. In a press conference held to break the news of Gasser's release, Sheriff Newell Normand dispelled reports that the shooter stood over McKnight's body as he pulled the trigger and cited the state's Stand Your Ground law as the reason Gasser wasn't charged.

It has now been learned that Gasser proceeded to assault a man at the Holmes Boulevard and Behrman Highway intersection on February 20, 2006. The victim's report details Gasser having followed him to the site's gas station, and struck him several times after the driver complained about Gasser driving erratically. Coincidentally, Gasser himself received the complaint call, as the driver reportedly dialed the number listed on the back of his pickup truck thinking it would put him in contact with a company switchboard. Gasser would be issued a misdemeanor summons, but prosecutors would later drop the battery charge.
