Former All-Star Houston Rockets point guard Steve Francis was detained for DWI over the weekend.

Francis was pulled over for speeding in Houston on Saturday night, November 19. Upon approaching the 39-year-old Maryland native to inform him that he had been driving 88 mph in a 65 miles per hour zone, police claim to have picked up the smell of alcohol, leading to a sobriety test, which he refused. Authorities reported having then discovered marijuana in the vehicle. He was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession and "retaliation," for allegedly threatening revenge upon the officers.

Francis has been noted by sources close to him, and by indication of police reports dating back to his well publicized 2001 DWI, for his long-time battle with alcoholism. The 1999-2000 Rookie of the Year has been retired from basketball since 2010, after failing to succeed overseas in China after a nine-year NBA career.
