Recently, news broke of singer Sevyn Streeter being denied the opportunity to sing the national anthem at an NBA game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder. The singer took to social media and explained why she was stopped from performing, saying that the venue did not agree with her outfit which was a jersey that said "We Matter" in reference to the Black Lives Matter movement. After this, reports surfaced noting that some of the Sixers' players were not too happy about the organization's decision to stop Streeter from performing. Because of that, The Sixers released a statement saying "We are sorry that this happened.

After receiving feedback from our players, basketball operations staff and ownership group, we believe that the wrong decision was made, and Sevyn should have been welcomed to sing. We apologize to her, and in an effort to move the conversation forward, we have reached out to offer her an opportunity to return and perform at a game of her choice. We are waiting to hear back.”

Sevyn Streeter has not publicly responded to the organization's statement yet.
