Drake has received a backlash from followers on social media, since releasing "2 Birds One Stone" over the weekend, with many upset over a rhyme in which he mocks Kid Cudi's mental health crisis. "You were the man on the moon, now you go through your phases," he raps in one verse, making reference to the title of Cudi's 2009 debut. Drake then follows up with a bar that cuts deeper, specifying medications that make it clear he is hitting on Cudi's confession that he has been battling suicidal tendencies, earlier this month. "You stay xan and perked up so when reality set in you don't gotta face it," he spits.
One particular fan, who goes by the handle @nohakelly, took exception and received a reply from Drake after writing, "Used to have a little respect left for you after finding out you have a ghostwriter, but dissing KidCudi is going too far. F**k you, man." Less than 10 minutes later, ChampagnePapi himself responded in his own defense, writing, "@nohakelly mans need to stop mentioning my name when they get geeked. Supposed be all love out here word to my bro Pablo."
Fans will recall Kid Cudi pouring his heart out in a letter through which he endeavored to clear the air about why he had been coming off as erratic towards some of his friends in the industry. Weeks before releasing his statement to the shock and support of past collaborators, he went off on a Twitter rant that puts artists [namely Drake and Kanye] on blast for having allegedly abandoned him after their work together. The shots prompted immediate responses from both Ye and Drake, with Kanye projecting hurt over the tweets while addressing them during a Saint Pablo Tour show, and Drake jabbing with "Boy you getting way too high, you need to Cudi." In Cudi's address to fans, he speaks of having silently battled depression for a long time and even resisted urges to take his life. He promised to put his best effort into getting well so that he may return and release the anticipated Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin', but for the meantime has submitted himself to rehabilitation.
