A message tweeted out by Ebro Darden on Monday [October 24], has had figures from around the industry calculating whether Drake is about to start pulling in money as an independent artist. "The illest piece of the Drake album dropping in DEC is his Cash Money deal will be over ... whoa!" Ebro wrote, before realizing that Drizzy wouldn't be the only one on the verge of a new venture. "Mad people finishing their deals in the next 18mos... interesting," he continued.

At the moment it might be difficult to gauge whether Drake is about to meet his contractual obligation, as there is still question as to whether his upcoming "More Life" project will be categorized as an album at all. His announcement recently informing fans of the release dubs "More Life" a "playlist project." And while "If You're Reading This It's Too Late" was one of the biggest projects in Hip Hop in 2015, it was a mixtape, and thus, wouldn't constitute an album according to his Cash Money Records deal. Neither would his "What a Time to Be Alive" collaboration with Future. This according to former Cash Money Records production coordinator, and industry veteran DJ Folk, who responded to Ebro's tweet, writing, "Not entirely true there's a wrinkle in that what they counted because 2 didn't count towards that fulfillment under og terms."

"It's a 6+ plus 1 and wattaba and the other joint ain't count from last year," DJ Folk wrote. "I'm looking at ammended cm yc umg contracts based thru this apple deal...... knowing Cash Money deals it's a 6+1+1 first rights refusal type of deal at that."
