A chaotic shootout in East Oakland resulted in seven men being wounded late Saturday, according to police.  The shootout continued even after officers arrived on the scene and prompted SWAT team units to move door to door throughout the neighborhood in search of possible suspects, said Officer Johnna Watson, a spokeswoman for the Oakland police.

Patrol officers were first alerted by a bystander around 11:45 p.m. Saturday about gunfire at 77th and Bancroft avenues, said police.  It was a turbulent scene as police officers took cover behind squad cars after they had said someone fired shots at them. "It was crazy. I heard 15 to 20 shots," neighbor Kevin Lynn said.  According to Lynn, the first gunfire was coming from a house party on 78th Avenue.

Many other victims showed up at the hospital on their own accord, police said.  The condition of the seven victims—ranging in age from 27 to 45—was not immediately released, but one of the victims is reportedly in critical condition, and another has since been treated and discharged, according to a dispatcher.  No officers were wounded in the gunfire.

Police are investigating and are still searching for the shooting suspects.
