Metta World Peace and Golden State Warriors Coach Mike Brown seem to get along fine these days, but there was a time when they almost fought each other.

Brown recently spoke to the San Jose Mercury News about the defender and said World Peace threatened him when he was an assistant for the Indiana Pacers in 2003. The conflict started when head coach Rick Carlisle told World Peace to lead the practice scrimmages between the starters and bench players. The order was given by Brown, and World Peace fought with him over the decision telling him “‘No, no Coach, we can’t have these teams. We’re gonna kill the second unit,” Brown explained. He responded by saying “Go ahead and kill them. Let’s see what happens." The second unit won the practice scrimmage, and Brown told the starters to run. World Peace was really angered by what happened, and he kicked a basketball into the rafters.

Things almost escalated into a fight between the two. “I yelled, ‘Ron [World Peace], don’t kick the ball! ” said Brown. World Peace said, “I’ll do what the [expletive] I want, and Brown followed by yelling “Don’t you kick that ball again.” Instead of kicking the ball, World Peace charged Brown ready to fight him. “I’m thinking ‘Oh my god, I’m gonna have to fight him,” said Brown. “Please somebody help me. Michael Smith-Michael ‘The Animal Smith—stepped in and stopped the thing.”
