A warrant has been put out for the arrest of a Jackson, Georgia police officer who on Friday [September 23], was charged with four felonies stemming from what the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has determined, was a fabricated account she gave authorities, about a Black man she accused of shooting her. Among the charges faced by officer Sherry Hall, are evidence tampering and giving false statements to investigators, before whom she described a 6-foot, 230-pound African-American assailant to be responsible for firing a shot that got lodged in her body armor. It is reported that Hall, who at the moment is on paid administrative leave, recently checked herself into a "private facility" to seek help, and will be arrested upon release.

A 10-day manhunt was set off by the allegations, which Hall made on September 13, when she radioed supervisors to inform them that the man was on the loose. They would interview her on three separate occasions after being presented with her penetrated vest, but eventually began to press interrogations to get to the bottom of inconsistencies showing up in her story, and in digital forensic evidence. After 600 hours of examination, and a stall in her cooperation, investigators took the poor integrity of Hall saying three bullets were fired, when in fact, video and recording evidence revealed there were only two; and Hall lying about having an extra handgun, into consideration when they concluded that Hall she had shot herself. “There is no, and never was, a suspect shooter at large in Jackson,” Special Investigator Wooten said.

“The truth is the officer did something wrong,” District Attorney Richard Milam said of the incident. “She will be prosecuted and brought to justice.”
