Law enforcement officials in Miami confirm that they are investigating an alleged incident that has come to light, involving a police confrontation that NFL linebacker Brandon Marshall claims to have been subjected to back in July.

In an Op-Ed recently published by the Denver Post, Marshall details having been out, dining out with friends at a Bayside Marketplace restaurant on Independence Day, when the incident occurred. According to his account, he was confronted, handcuffed, and directed into the cruiser of police responding to report of gunshots, while attempting to leave the area. The 27-year-old Broncos defenseman says he was pointed out by a woman directing traffic, and that at one point he was in fact threatened with use of a taser.

According to the Miami Police Department, there is no record of such an encounter. Marshall says that after some time radioing superiors, the officers were told to release him on the scene. “They told me, ‘Look, we’re not going to take you in as long as you keep this between us,'" he said.
