Seven years into a 75-year prison sentence, Max B got to relish in the good news that he'll be coming home in a fraction of that time, on Friday afternoon [September 16], after agreeing to a plea deal which would have him do six more years, with the possibility of release after two, in a best case scenario. A press release put out by the 38-year-old rapper's publicist confirmed that each of the original charges of his 12-count indictment, including first-degree murder and first-degree robbery, have been dropped.

"This proceeding was not a question of my guilt or innocence, but about the bad advice, poor judgment, and overall ineffectiveness of my trial attorney," Max B said in a statement about the development. Fans will recall the Harlem rapper's arrest and subsequent sentencing at the height of his success in 2009. After years of as a ghost writer for Jim Jones and the ByrdGang clique, and his prolific output on the mix-tape circuit having cultivated a growing following, his career looked to meet it's end, as did his life as a free man, when he was taken down for a 2006 armed robbery that claimed two lives. Along with his 76-year sentence, his stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, would receive life plus 35 years.

"I had a dream about this. I told my bro this when he lost hope! Can't wait for you to get home! Trust me when I tell you, God is the greatest!," French Montana, who was one of Max B's closest confidants and collaborators, wrote of the outcome, on Instagram. Numerous others from the industry have rejoiced in the news, including Wiz Khalifa, with whom Max did a track called Silver Surfer in February. "Max B is coming home. Sentence got shortened. Looks like the Gang will be working wit the Wave," Wiz tweeted.
