Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane became the first player outside of San Francisco to act in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick's protest on Thursday, September 1, by sitting during the playing of the National Anthem before the preseason finale against the Oakland Raiders.

"I wasn't trying to say anything, just standing behind Kaepernick," Lane told reporters after the game. The 2012 draftee characterized the move as a personal decision that he hadn't informed anybody on the team about. Lane also said he hadn't at any point been in communication with Kaepernick, but rather, had contemplated the plan to himself over the past week. As is the case with Kaepernick, Lane confirmed that his protest will be indefinite and that in spite of any backlash that may come of it he will sit until he feels there is justice. "I am prepared for it, and I don't mean no disrespect to anybody, but you know I'm just standing behind what I believe in," he said.

Lane wasn't the only player to join Kaepernick on Thursday. As the 49'ers quarterback sat for a second week, surrounded by standing players and staff, teammate Eric Reid knelt beside him.
