Colin Kaepernick's refusal to stand for the national anthem has ruffled quite a few feathers and raised a national debate.  Though Kaepernick says his action is in protest of the oppression, inequality, and police brutality against black people; critics say that his refusal to stand while “The Star Spangled Banner” plays as disrespectful to military veterans.

Well, many veterans took to Twitter to debunk that theory.  They created the hashtag #VeteransForKaepernick, for the San Francisco 49ers quarterback.  The tweets from people identifying themselves as military veterans include pictures of themselves in uniform, along with messages of support.  Many veterans noted that they also fought to protect the 1st amendment, the right to freedom of speech.  Some African-American veterans say they fought for a country that is not fighting for them, so they also stand with Kaepernick in protest.
