A Georgia pastor, known for the incendiary remarks he's made will soon come before a judge to defend himself against allegations that he is a sexual predator.  At the request of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 56-year-old Ken Adkins, of St. Simons Island, handed himself over to authorities at around nine a.m. on Friday, [August 26]. He currently remains in detention at the Glynn County Jail as he faces charges of child molestation and aggravated child molestation.

Adkins came to the nation's attention following remarks he made on the massacre at Pulse nightclub in Orlando earlier this year.  With the ill-timing of a tweet that would quickly capture headlines, the pastor created a stir when he wrote, "Been through so much with these Jacksonville homosexuals that I don’t see none of them as victims. I see them as getting what they deserve!!"  The comment drew a storm of criticism from numerous figures in television and print media. Placing a wedge between followers who felt compassion for the 49 people who lost their lives in the attack, and those who stood behind Adkins' remarks as representative of their feelings upon learning of the sexual orientation of the victims. Adkins' words carry a considerable amount of influence, as he heads a church attended by thousands across locations in Brunswick, Jacksonville, and Atlanta.
