An up and coming D.C. rapper who worked with the likes of Jazzy Pha was shot and killed this week, and police have offered a $25,000 reward for anyone who finds his killer.

The rapper, Swipey, built a following in his hometown and had generated hundreds of thousands of views on his YouTube channel. He even performed alongside prominent artists including Wale and Fat Joe. His manager, Kevin Baldwin was devastated by the loss and told The Washington Post that Swipey had a promising career ahead of him. He also gave some insight into why he may have been targeted. “The issue was he was being successful on every level, but the hardest part was to get him away from his friends—the negativity,” he said. “That’s where him and I bumped heads.”

Police believe the attack was not random. They are currently searching for a suspect and a motive. Swipey's mother described him as a “good guy” to The Washington Post. “He was a good guy, a nice guy, he never tried to start no trouble,” she said. “I’m crying. I’m crying because I love my son.”
