With a Popcaan collaboration in the works and a Diamond League Riddim mix on deck, former Bad Boy artist Shyne has his sights set on the future. But despite his having remained connected in the industry in spite of losing eight of his prime years behind bars, being a feat in itself, there are milestones the rapper aims to reach that are bigger than music. In an interview that was released on Wednesday [July 27], the 36-year-old Belizean native tells of his plans of becoming his nation's Prime Minister before long.

“I’m going to be in Parliament in Belize very soon. I’m going to be leading my nation and contributing to my nation with all the capacity that I have," The son of Belize's current three-term leader told Bossip. "My father is the right honorable prime minister, and he’s retiring, and I’m succeeding him and my uncle. So I can continue in the legacy of my father and serve the people.”

Shyne's father is Dean Barrow, who has served in the country's highest office since 2008. And his uncle is Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Michael Finnegan. While the bass-heavy vocals have kept him sought out to perform before audiences, particularly in the Caribbean [as was the case when he linked up with Beenie Man and Barrington Levy at the Reggae Sum Fest in Jamaica last week], he doesn't shy away from letting folks know where his more solid foundation of power lies, admitting that his political status on the island grants him "access to resources, to power and influence to help poor people, to help people with limited income, people that are struggling and suffering the way I used to as a child."

In the meantime, there is the music. Shyne told Bossip that he is currently in the studio working on a Dancehall album that he promises will gain a significant amount of radio play over the next year.
