Drake told a Kansas City crowd to protect themselves over the weekend, right before he let them know that he would deliver a new mixtape soon.

The rapper seemed to address racial unrest during the performance and tied it in with a new project that will follow-up his platinum-selling “Views” album. “I want [you all] to protect yourself and everyone around you and spread love; spread good energy,” he said. “Because you know what? What I saw tonight was a beautiful building of people from all races and all places. And I want you to protect yourselves and each other so when I go to work on this new mixtape and come back to Kansas City and I drop that sh*t, I wanna see everybody in this motherf***a, boy!” Drake was at a stop for his Summer Sixteen tour. He seemed to be addressing the recent events in the U.S. concerning the killing of black men by police officers. Canadian-born Drake has remained mostly silent on these issues in the past, but did address them briefly on “Charged Up” and "6PM in New York" from his 2015 mixtape “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.”

Drake sneaked in a plug for the new tape which is sure to please fans who wanted more rap from him on “Views.” His mixtape brand is strong. He’s released 4 to date including “So Far Gone,” which made him a star. On his last mixtape “IYRITL,” Drake focused more on rap than singing. It spawned several hits including “Energy” and “10 Bands.”
