DJ Khaled went to great lengths to get a verse for "I Got the Keys" from one of his idols, Jay Z.

The mogul recently spoke with Music Choice about his relationship with Jay and said he even purchased property in New York so that he was closer to him. “I basically got a condo in New York City for a whole year to stay close by him and let him know how hungry I was for that verse,” he said. “So I went in the studio every day. He was recording his album and I appreciate him letting me be around and capture that greatness, but at the same time I was hustling too, you know what I am saying. I wanna get that verse in. It was a year process,” he said.

Jay Z’s first appearance on a Khaled record was on “They Don’t Love You No More” in 2015. The song also featured French Montana, Meek Mill, and Rick Ross. Their second collaboration, “I Got the Keys,” which also features Future, was released earlier this year and is on his upcoming album “Major Key.”
