Gucci Mane said life in prison was "hell," but during his stint, some positive things happened in his life.

Big Guwop spoke with Fader shortly after being released from prison and told the publication that he was able to stop doing drugs and clean himself up while doing time. “I was on drugs so bad, I talked different,” said Gucci. “When I was smoking damn near a pound of weed every other day, I was congested. When I was drinking lean like crazy every day, I was out of my mind.” His newly found sobriety had people questioning whether he was a clone or the real Gucci once he started showing his face in public after becoming a free man. He described himself in the interview as “a sober, more conscious Gucci,” and laughed off the clone rumors. “It’s funny. I embrace it, a clone is, like, perfection. So if I look like a machine or a robot, then I’m doing something well,” he said.

Gucci Mane is now 3 years sober and enjoying life. He doesn’t look back at prison with regret and said he would still go through it if he could do things “all over again.” “It helped me a lot. To get to the point I am now. It dried me out from the drugs. Gave me time to reflect. It made a lot of relationships that were toxic in my life, fall away. And just set up a boundary for when I got out. But at the same time, it was a maximum security prison. People were dying every week,” said Gucci. The death and violence were hard to get through for the rapper. He also described himself as a “hell of a man.” He said people are going to have to get used to the new him, but he understands it will take some time.
