The resurgence of Gucci Mane has been a powerful one, as he has been gaining his footing back in the world of music. He influenced a new wave of artists who all flourished while he was in prison, as well as released a bunch of music that competed with the artists he provided platforms for. His drive and passion is to be admired, but it wasn't enough to keep him away from jail. His addiction to drugs did not help either. In his first post-jail interview with the NY Times, Gucci Mane admitted to being a drug addicted. In the interview, he said "I felt like I couldn’t make music sober, I couldn’t enjoy my money sober. Why would I wanna go to a club and couldn’t smoke or drink? I felt like sex wouldn’t be good sober. I associated everything with being high. In hindsight I see it for what it was: I was a drug addict. I was naïve to the fact that I was numb.”

The rapper combed over all his drug vices, mentioning that he had been drinking alcohol and smoking weed since he was 17 years old. He also said that he drank lean since he was 21, even adding prescription pills or ecstasy in the mix at times. The rapper went on to say that he didn't feel happy about the last six to seven years that he spent in the music business. Gucci spoke about his time in prison serving as rehab and described the process by saying "It feel like death. Your body [is] just craving lean bad. Stomach tore up, can’t think straight. Just mad at the world. Temper so short, so violent, so aggressive. So just rude and toxic.”
