Joe Budden and his podcast partner Rory discussed the Drake beef and his belief that Charlamagne tha God has become a puppet while appearing on The Brilliant Idiots this week.

Budden clearly stated that the shock jock is not the same person he met in Sumter, South Carolina many years ago, and even went as far as to call Charlamagne a puppet to his face. The radio host asked him outright why he believes that about him. “Because I believe your hip-hop roots would shine and flourish a little more if your show allowed it. Ya’ll have the number one show. I think there are restraints. There’s a ceiling over you. And I can tell when you, Envy and Angela start f***ing thinking about your [business] relationships as you’re doing your job. That’s called a puppet Charlamagne," said Budden. Charlamagne responded to Budden by explaining how he’s not a puppet.  “I’ve been doing radio since 1998. This is the 7th radio station I’ve worked for. I’ve been fired four times because of my opinion. The reason The Breakfast Club hired me after being fired four times is because they know exactly what to expect from Charlamagne. Since I’ve been here since 2010. I’ve sh*tted on guys like Drake, Birdman, Lil Wayne all of these core artists for IHeartRadio. You know how many times [my company] has come to be and said Drake won’t do a concert because of you. Did I stop? Absolutely not,” Charlamagne said.

The radio host then brought up many of the unlikely guests he invited to The Breakfast Club including Minister Louis Farrakhan, Dick Gregory, and Dr. Umar Johnson as proof that he is not just a corporate puppet and puts in real work. “When did you see Farrakhan on any major media before me,” he asked Joe Budden. The rapper still insisted that he and his show have “ceilings.” The host then talked about the infamous attacks on him in recent years. Budden admitted that the host did a lot of “good” in the media, but that he still considers him a music industry puppet. The rapper knocked him for not being honest about the artists that he doesn’t necessarily hate but leaves alone. Budden said it “took a lot” for Charlamagne to criticize Meek Mill by giving him Donkey of the Day. He claims he did it when the general public had already turned on him. The group also talked a lot about Joe’s beef with Drake. Charlamagne feels it came out of nowhere, while Budden thinks he’s justified in his diss records.
