The movie The Birth Of Nation has been making waves ever since being unveiled at the Sundance Film Festival as well as winning an award. Since then, the powerful trailer for the Nate Parker-written and directed film been the subject of much discussion. The film is set in 1831, and follows a preacher in Virginia who caused a rebellion with other slaves in his town. Now, another image related to the film has released via TIDAL.

The image for the film features a black-and-white headshot of Parker, who plays lead character Nat Turner, being strangled by a noose created from the American flag. The image is especially symbolic given all of the recent events that have taken place lately -- from the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, to black people being hung in parks in 2016. Along with releasing the image on TIDAL, Parker also provided a statement via Instagram, saying "#Healing can only come through an honest confrontation with our past. Do we have the courage to examine the true Birth of this Nation? #ItsTimeToHeal, America. #thebirthofanation #StandWithUs."

The Birth Of A Nation hits theaters on October 7, 2016.
