Lil Yachty interviewed with The Breakfast Club this week and explained how he first linked up with Kanye West.
The two actually ended up meeting through stylist Ian Connor after Yachty did a photoshoot for him. Yachty and Ian were both models for Ye's fashion show for Yeezy Season 3 at Madison Square Garden, where The Life of Pablo was debuted. While Yachty says he didn't officially meet Kanye through that opportunity.
One of Kanye's assistants apparently drives West around a lot and plays Yachty’s music in the car. Kanye eventually asked about it, and went to meet him afterwards. “I did [Yeezy Season 3] though Ian [Connor]. But I don’t know if you consider that’s how I met him. I did a photoshoot for him not too long ago. One of his assistants told me that he drives Ye around and he loves my music and he was playing me in the car for Kanye. And Kanye was like ‘who is this?’ and he was like ‘oh this guy was your main model with the red hair’ and he looked me up and came to the studio,” he said.
He first saw him in person at Yeezy Season where Kanye debuted “The Life of Pablo.” Connor has been in the news lately for allegedly raping multiple women. Yachty didn’t comment on the allegations, but did say the two no longer speak after he said something the stylist didn’t like during another interview.
