Tory Lanez finally addressed some of the back and forth between him and Drake while speaking with Hot 97 this week.

The singer admitted to being a fan of Drake who took a subliminal shot at him on “Summer Sixteen,” but also let listeners know that he’s ready to compete with the current musical behemoth. “There’s never been a personal problem cause I don’t know that man. It’s just one of those situations where the only thing that’s ever gonna lie between us is that we can’t share first place. And I’m the only guy that’s bold enough to come and really take that right now,” said Lanez. “Hip-Hop is a contact sport, I’m here to compete, I’m here to be #1. I was a fan of his music before, no one’s ever took that from me. That doesn’t mean I’m not here to take my crown.”

Drake allegedly took a shot at Lanez when he rapped, “all you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little” on "Summer Sixteen. "At the time, it seemed that he was referring to Lanez style of rapping and singing, a style made popular by Drake in recent years, and used by other artists such as Ja Rule and Nelly in rap’s history. Lanez also followed in Drake’s footsteps by releasing a Dancehall inspired record titled “Luv.” The two drew from the heavy Caribbean influence which permeates throughout Toronto. Lanez told Ebro that his father is actually from Barbados which also plays a role in his music.
