Federal investigators have dismissed allegations from those who've come out to share that contact, which might put Omar Mateen's sexuality into question, was made with them prior to his massacring of 49 people in Orlando, FL on June 12. Claims that the twice married 29-year-old husband and father was active on gay dating apps and had gay lovers, are unsubstantiated, investigators have now told the press. But some of those who've said that they interacted with Mateen have remained insistent, and express skepticism as to why their information has not been acknowledged.

“The FBI obviously is trying to cover up their information,” said Pulse nightclub regular, Cord Cedeno, 23. “I can go take a lie detector test. I know for a fact Omar messaged me.” Cedeno is one of several gay men who came forward in the days that followed the shooting, to notify the FBI about an interaction. He says Mateen made several attempts to message him on Grindr, but that he soon blocked him for failing to make conversation. The electronics [phones and laptops] were confiscated from both Mateen's person and home, as well as from the individuals claiming to have spoken with the killer on Grindr, Jack'd and Adam4Adam, but were returned having bared no evidence to prove the allegations. Kevin West, 29, another Pulse regular and a Navy veteran defended against the assumption that there is nothing to the claims, stating, “No one is lying about him being on there. Once you have the app and delete your profile, it’s gone.”

On Tuesday, rumors that Mateen may have been a repressed homo/bi-sexual male was brought along further when a man presenting himself as "Miguel" was interviewed by Univision. "Miguel," who wore a disguise to protect his identity, said that he had intercourse with Mateen and had even engaged in a threesome involving a man who told Mateen he was HIV positive after their affair. Investigators batted down the man's account as less than credible. Authorities have not given a conclusive position on whether their investigation has confirmed, as some have alleged, that Mateen had frequented the club to any degree.

Aside from testimony there have been no text messages, photographs, phone apps, or pornography that might indicate that Mateen lived a secret lifestyle, authorities say. Regardless of any findings that might suppose that Mateen was gay, there are many who have expressed fatigue with the direction the investigation has taken. “People died by that man’s hands and [the] only thing this country is concerned about is if he is gay or not,” West said of the investigation's update.
