Azealia Banks is having a makeover. According to a series of notifications posted to Facebook, the once referred to Miss Bank$ is dropping the surname from her moniker and wants to simply be called "Azealia" from here on out. Perhaps more substantively, the multi-talented performer will no longer define herself as a "rapper," stating publicly for the second time in her eight year career, that she never felt like she was a rapper.

"Remember, I only started rapping because my acting career wasn't moving as quickly as I wanted it to," the singer wrote. "Rap has been SUCH [a] diversion for me, and it's probably the reason I feel so lost and off my path."

Going on to explain how rap has served as a means for her to sustain herself, Azealia expressed feeling dis-empowered to embody her true calling by owning the persona of a "fem-cee," a "rap girl," or a basic "spitta." Her desire to redirect her focus to acting and singing echoes a sentiment she expressed back in 2012, when she stated "from now on I’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the “rap game,” before abandoning Twitter.

"The rapping and rap-girl persona is overshadowing my real dream which is to be a singer," said the 25-year-old Harlemite.
