Drake released several new singles on Beats 1 on Saturday [June 5], and thanks to one of the songs, Joe Budden apparently found the inspiration he had tuned in to listen for.  The Slaughterhouse rapper-turned rap critic took to social media after the OVO Sound Radio show played "4PM in Calabasas", tweeting that the track "sounded inspired" before characterizing it as an attack on Puff. Budden also alleged that he was dissed on the track, but deflected focus onto references to Diddy while acknowledging Drizzy's effort.

"He ain’t sound that inspired in a minute (to me)," Joe wrote, revisiting the dull feelings he expressed having about the recent quality of the Views rapper's work, during a review of his album in April. He was then asked whether he'd "move" on the shots he supposed were sent his way on 4PM, to which Joe responded, "Ain’t no move.. Now we all get to enjoy great Drake music."

While the song's verse actually scatters allusions to several rappers and R&B acts, from Master P to SWV, it is clear that the track comprises a general Bad Boy motif, starting with the beat, which pulls a loop from Biggie and The Lox's "You'll See".  "The higher I get the less they accept me/Even had the OGs tryna press me," Drake spits a quarter of the way into the track, possibly recalling his 2014 dispute with Puff. He follows the line up with the classic Grandmaster Flash-laugh ["Haha-ha-ha ha"] that Puff echoed on "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down". "No way out 'cause I'm already in it," he continues, naming the Diddy album from which he drew the reference. Later on he gestures "take that, take that," and raps "I'mma make you dance to this," age old Puff quirks that have been parodied by the likes of Jamie Foxx.

"Puff gotta fire back for the culture lol," Budden instigated.  "Can’t let a n**** grab the classic bad boy loop, then sing all your hits as he disses u & not fire back lol for HipHop!"
