A former top-30 national recruit who would go on to bring the St. John's University basketball team to it's first NCAA Tournament in five years was apprehended early Wednesday (June 2) and charged with attempted murder, following a drug transaction-turned robbery that ended in gunfire. Rysheed Jordan was arrested at around 2 am by Temple University police, in an unrelated incident. Upon discovering his identity he was booked on charges of aggravated assault, robbery, criminal conspiracy, and other related offenses in addition to the attempted murder rap.

Police had been searching for Jordan since Friday, when according to police reports, shortly after 4 pm he shot a man in the arm during an attempted robbery. Jordan and a couple of accomplices had been approached for a marijuana sale on the 1400 block of North 25th Street in the Brewerytown section of Philadelphia. That's when the 21-year-old allegedly demanded that the victim [and his friend] give up their money and phones. At that point the two men attempted to flea, dodging all but one of several bullets fired as one of the men was struck in the arm. As they rushed into the seats of the driver's car, one of the suspects attempted to turn the ignition off as another continued firing shots. The victims were able to get away and reach Housing Authority Police, who escorted them to the hospital.

After four days on the streets Jordan would essentially blow his anonymity when shortly after midnight crossed over into Wednesday morning, police witnessed his green Jaguar speeding past a red light in the area where Friday's shooting had taken place. Having realized he was being signaled to pull over, Jordan led the officers in a chase that ended after he exited the car and attempted to get away on-foot, tossing a loaded gun as he tried to leave them behind. It wasn't long before he was taken into custody and charged.

He is being held on $750,000 bail and is due back in court on June 16.
