A convict classified by Florida Highway Patrol as a habitual traffic offender is behind bars after running over a motorcyclist in a fit of road rage late Monday (May 30). A group of riders were returning home from Memorial Day festivities in Tampa when they were allegedly run off of the road. After regaining traction, they began to follow the responsible vehicle, drawing the recording of a motorist who happened to witness the pursuit and subsequent confrontation. A short police chase led to the capture and arrest of 31-year-old Robert Paul Vance of Land O' Lakes.

“I thought the guy was trying to kill us, obviously,” Navy Veteran Joe Calderazzo recounted of the moments leading up to the attack. “Is he going to put the car in reverse? Is he going to turn around? Is he going to stop and pull out a gun? You don’t know what’s going on.”

A video of the incident has since gone viral. It shows Vance exchanging words with Caldezarro and his passenger Melanie Ann Milinkovich, in traffic from his drivers seat, before kicking the car into drive and steering a sudden right that plowed the motorcycle over while the two riders were still seated. He then sped away from the scene. Upon his arrest, Vance was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He also faces one count of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

The drug, burglary and traffic felon is being held at Pasco County Jail, without bond.
