New Orleans Pelicans guard Bryce Dejean-Jones is dead following an incident where he was shot in the abdomen in Dallas.

According to Dallas Police, officers responded to a call about a shooting at an apartment at 3:20 am on Saturday morning. The apartment's resident says he heard someone kick in his front door, and he went to grab his gun and called out to the person who broke in his door. When the intruder, now identified as Dejean-Jones, kicked open his bedroom door the resident fired at the athlete, wounding him in his stomach.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Dejean-Jones believed the apartment belonged to an "estranged acquaintance," but he got the wrong residence. It's unclear whether the apartment resident will face any charges.

The team sent out a statement following the news, "It is with deep sadness that the Pelicans organization acknowledges the sudden passing of Bryce Dejean-Jones. We are devastated at the loss of this young man's life who had such a promising future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryce's family during this difficult time."
