iLoveMakonnen announced his retirement from music over the weekend via Twitter and cited the rap game being “wack” as the reason behind the decision.

“Rap game wack, everyone flexed up except Makonnen, that’s why I’m retiring. Lol this so good,” tweeted iLoveMakonnen on Friday. Fans expressed their grief over his decision, but the “Tuesday” singer continued to affirm his retirement during the past few days on Twitter. It seems that iLoveMakonnen has had some issues with fellow rappers and has been tweeting about how fake they are since his announcement. “It’s like for me to stay, I have to diss all these rappers and be negative, I don't wanna do that, so I’ll move on. How positive is that,” he tweeted. He went on to encourage other artists to be themselves the same way that he did.

iLoveMakonnen’s attempt at falling on his own sword comes shortly after he parted ways with Drake’s OVO Sound label. Just last month, he humbly announced the decision to leave the label after achieving much success with the hit song “Tuesday” that featured the OVO general himself. “I cannot thank OVO, 40, Oliver, Future& MR. Moran enough for all that they have done for my career. No words can express how much I appreciate Drake for being a part of the success of Tuesday. I’m sure the haters will have something negative to say, but all in all my choice to be solely on Warner Bros. Records was the right thing for me and for my best interest. Sorry there’s no beef to report, DRINK MORE WATER,” said iLoveMakonnen in a statement following his departure from OVO.

Although the singer claimed there was no bad blood at the time, there was an incident in May of last year where he sent scathing tweets towards his former boss Drake and frequent collaborator Rihanna. iLoveMakonnen seemed sour after the rapper and singer refused to get on two of his tracks. “f*** @drake: and @ovo for getting on @fettywap remix and leaving me in the #cold,” he tweeted. “@rihanna is a slut for not getting on dmw5 f*** her too.” Shortly after those tweets were sent out the singer claimed he was hacked and denied writing them.
